The UK barely speaks English tbh. They are just a bunch of insane people trapped on an island.

I bet when a lot of the Brits actually thought that they were going to have to box up their things and call a moving truck when it was announced their people were leaving the EU.

There's some of them here on the board.
They're not too bad....you know, for British fellers.

Yeah I don't mind being around them as long as I don't have to see or smell them, and they don't try too hard to pretend like they actually matter. It could be worse. We could have Australians.

you will still hear a phrase such as million million million in science shows instead of trillion (traditional) or quintillion (modern) presumably to avoid confusion

I like how scientists, mathematicians, and engineers mostly just use exponents.

I’m the U.K., in 1974, did people say a billion was a million million?

> a billion was a million million
While I've never said this myself, although less useful the long scale actually makes more sense:
M(ono) = 1 - million
Bi = 2 - million million
Tri = 3 - million million million
Quad = 4 - million million million million
Quint = 5 - million million million million million
etc.
The short scale was originally French and only later adopted by USMurca.
