Topic: Getting a new business desktop

My dude is recommending a small form factor OptiPlex system with a 7th gen i7, 500gb SSD, 16gb DDR4, Windows 10 pro, $1199 with 1 year warranty. Refurbished. Is this overkill/reasonable/what?

Thanks nerds

Syntax wood say that Dell looks Ok Except for the 500gb SSD.
Unless becky is willing to off load her 3/4 Terabyte micropenis's files, to cloud or external backup SSD.

Optipleces suck. They are more like terminals.

Locally south of me there is a famous but not largely known company (Except they make just about the most famous Drone US uses as licensed from Israel) and they have lots of people in R&D working on various versions of this. It's not designed to kill. Only temporarily blind the opponent. There is some rule against Blinding the Enemy totally so that is not the objective. Easy to do but illegal Planet Wide.

They also have a unique weapon undergoing testing by the Navy - Yea let me dig up a photo of that one. People been working on these all over Planet Earth for YEARS and one gal I Surf with works for the company and is on the project so let me dig up pic and details made pubic - She for sure has never discussed any details with me of what comes up next except to confirm she is on the project as a Scientist PhD - She real cute and Lesbo.

Probably overkill, tbh. Are you just running standard legal software/word processing/general lawyering? An i7 and 16GB RAM seems unnecessary, idk. Although at least you can be sure it'll handle basically anything you might want to run, so I guess I'd probably go for it for that reason. THanks.

we have optiplex 7040 and it’s supreme overkill considering we just use them for outlook and shitty proprietary legal software

I think our computer janitors get scammed by dell or get these nutso overkill machines to justify their budget/jobs

I have to say they are nice considering they are 4 x 11 x 11 inches and the dell monitors fit perfectly on them if you lay the tower on its side

Buy the parts, put it together your self, and save several hundred dollars.

I'm not seeing the value here. You can go to Dell.com and get a new Optiplex 7070 for $1,259 with a 9th gen i7-9700 8 core processor, 16GB RAM DDR4, Win 10 Pro, three year warranty, and 256GB m2 SSD*

It's barely any more and you get a much longer warranty and a better processor. (Did I mention the 7th gen i7 is 4 core vs. 9th gen which is 8 core?)

*I know this is smaller. You can buy a 500GB SSD at Best Buy for $65, then pop it in and get 756 GB SSD storage. Alternately, you could buy a 1 TB HDD for $50 at Best Buy and pop that it for 1.25 TB of storage.

Obviously you'll need 64GB of RAM to play rollercoaster tycoon on max settings

Meta !Sober//iZs replied with this 6 years ago, 27 seconds later, 6 hours after the original post[^] [v] #1,049,244

You can go to Lenovo.com and configure a ThinkCentre M920 SFF desktop with a i7-8700, 16GB DDR4 RAM, 768 GB (256+512 GB) SSD storage, Win 10 pro, and built-in wifi for $1,205 with a 1 year onsite warranty. (you can save $20 if you delete the included keyboard and mouse and just use the ones you already have, bringing the price down to $1,185). Again, this is only $5 more, with a newer processor than the refurbished Dell.

The cool thing with buying a ThinkCentre is you already like ThinkPads, so why not get a desktop to match your laptop?

Meta !Sober//iZs double-posted this 6 years ago, 3 minutes later, 6 hours after the original post[^] [v] #1,049,246

Externally hosted imageYou could even get this cool ThinkPad USB keyboard with trackpoint so typing on the desktop is exactly the same as typing on the laptop.

Okay thanks, yeah it sounded like... way too much. Last time I got something from them it was a $3000 laptop so I imagine they think they can just upsell me. thanks, thanks

Will you at least buy a half decent keyboard for it? Or are you gonna use the cheapass $5 plastic keyboard that comes with it? ?
