Topic: Getting a haircut is such a fucking pain

Anonymous A started this discussion 6 years ago #92,361

I only know two styles, short and long baby, short and long. I just want the barber to know what would look best and be able to convince me with the results. Instead I gotta be like a drunk corpse, staggering inside, just barely able to convey that i want my hair shorter.

I want to but everyone tells me it's a bad idea. So thanks for the bad idea, but no thanks.

Supercuts or any salon with female slice and dice cutters.
Lots of techniques regular barbers never learn and cost is just a few bucks more.

The thing is though that I don't want to style my hair everyday. I'll put shampoo on it and I'll move it slightly so to the left or right, but that be as far as I'm willing to go. I couldn't withstand having to style my hair, it would be like a everyday reminder of how I'm desperately not who I want to be.

The best haircut I ever had was in a little barber shop run by an old navy veteran who would sit reading the newspaper and grumbling to himself when he wasn't cutting hair. I walked in. He pointed over at the chair. I sat down. He threw a bib on me and proceeded to give me a trim with some electric clippers that he cleaned up and finished with a pair of scissors. He fixed up the edges with the clippers and whipped the bib off me. I paid, tipped him, and left. Ten minutes between walking in and walking out with a haircut. We never spoke a word.

I moved out of that town and have been searching for that experience again ever since.

Not saying I enjoy getting mine cut. I think it has to do with back when my mom insisted I switch from barber who was always the same guy who did my hair exactly as I wanted it to be. My mom had a GF that had to quit a salon because of a newborn - So she needed the money and I ended up as victim and HATED Just HATED her doing my hair cut which was NOT as I asked her to do. She said you will like it my way more better - I told my mother that IF I had to go back to her I wood slit that hair gals throat and sell the baby to Gypsies.

I got my way of course.

Hormones wouldn't make me into what I want to be. While some might want mercy for those with the wrong gender, I wonder how much more the world can go wrong. There's the ridiculous comparisons of transsexuals to those who think they have the wrong age or are in the wrong species and so on, I'm not wondering about that when I imagine what more the world can get us wrong on. The world can make us into criminals, even monsters when we were never anything close to that to begin with. Maybe we have the next genius ready and eager to create another golden age for us all to enjoy but we are stupid, we can't see him because we think he's something else.

I moved. It's a shame because he wasn't just doing a hack job to get customers through faster. I was the only one there. It was actually a nice haircut that looked pretty good on me. That guy just knew his shit.

I admit I am not a very tolerant person when it comes to those who feel they need to be something else gender wise. Just seems to me that if you put aside the drama of all as you describe and got on with your life just like any genius does. Education - Hobbies that coincide with a career. Set a goal and go for it. I doubt Einstein let his gender get in the way with what he wanted to do as a Physicist.

I wasn't calling myself a genius though. My problem with education is that my heart doesn't seem to be in it. I ask myself what education would i like, and there's some interest in things, things like psychology. But I want to learn it and not actually practice it.

Why do you remind me of Catherine.

She stuck in her mom's nest, nice and comfy with endless classes, but none really anything that excited her. Apparently no real drive.

I usually am not very successful trying to explain that in my opinion people should find a hobby early on that excites them and later see if they can turn what they have learned and enjoyed as a hobby could turn into a profession. I did that with geek stuff and Ham Radio, which led to being paid to play. Now sure there were/are times when it is NOT fun - Yet fun enough to overcome the normal issues of dealing with say a manager that isn't up to par. Not much of a problem where I consult now but frankly even when I had a manager getting in my way, that made me a better person by learning how to cover my bases and get that guy off my back.

There are companies where employees rate their managers and what a difference that makes. Plus even managers have to be interviewed by the people they are going to manage and that sure clears out lots of future problems - Alas on occasion one smart nasty person can get past that protective layer and then what a mess follows.

SO FOR YOU I suggest this - AND I did this a LOT - Go to any university. Pick a building like that where Psychology is taught - Anyone can walk into any class and just sit down for the hour and enjoy. Try that - I wandered into a history class and ended up later taking it and the Prof was FAMOUS - Super well liked and respected and I was just luck nuff to just wander into his class - Now with internet one can research and see the rankings on blogs.

Comes down to not only wanting to learn something but finding someone that teaches the course and makes it EXCITING - Hugh HUGE Difference - Otherwise Robots can teach or just get info online

Well obviously, I remind you of Catherine who i believe you have judged too harshly and likewise, you judge me too harshly. There's some real disadvantages that i have but not so severe that they cannot be overcome, rather so severe that the job i have now has been like a blessing and a miracle. And so I'm kind of just focused on that.

Sounds good to me - I however do not think I judged Cathy to hard. She fully admitted she could not get excited about much at all.

Someone started a fire on the beach which means roasting marshmallows and I have a bottle of Scotch and some really cool glassware to share so I will take my bottle down and see if anyone wants to find out how the Carmel of the Marshmallows match with Single Malt Scotch.

Later much later and if luck is with me just one more day b4 I get to take a work trip followed by Vacation

I cut my own hair. Kept it short forever then finally grew it out a couple years ago. Stress-induced alopecia areata forced me to cut it off again about a year ago and it's finally getting nice and long again. In another six months or a year it'll be the longest it's ever been.

Anonymous K joined in and replied with this 6 years ago, 10 minutes later, 8 hours after the original post[^] [v] #1,048,404

I just go in and say I'd like it to about an inch long and just neat and tidy, all I do is sweep it along at the top a little. I ask them to use scissors in the cut because I like how it looks.

First to Louisiana for just a useless meeting and then to Kazakhstan to witness several tests for an insurance company - Just watch say yes and sign some papers and then then I look at weather forecast and figure out where on Planet Earth I want to chill out on Other People's Money Thinking some beach with Surf more than available and rent a couple of boards and get lots of those Rhum with fruit juices and real fruit and little umbrellas - Tiki style - Hawaii one of the smaller Islands or some Exotic location like Bora Bora, been there but never Surfed there.
