A friend of mine went. He was driving for Uber & picked up a guy that was in town setting up for the Trump rally. My friend is a political junkie & a Democrat, but when the guy offered him some kind of special exclusive access tickets, he couldn't refuse, he collects campaign buttons etc from every election since Carter. Now his job as an emergency response utility tech involves going into the worst neighborhoods in town, dealing with everything from turning people off non-pay, restoring service after: an outage, being off non-pay, being turned off by error etc & sometimes having to leave service off anyway due to safety concerns, some of which are the customer's responsibility to foot the bill for the repairs before they can have service restored. That's not to mention dealing with the product itself, which can put him in life-threatening situations. He's been doing this for 30 years. He told me that going to the Trump rally was the most uncomfortable experience of his life! The hatred & single-mindedness of the event was palpible. The lights, music & hateful rhetoric, along with the chants, reminded him of newsreels of Hitler's & Mussolini's rallies. The hate being spewed by Trump had the effect of throwing raw meat to starving, mad dogs. He felt that if someone outed him as a Democrat, he would have been torn to pieces by the maddened crowd. Apparently some people in this country have forgotten the lessons of WW2, & are falling for the same old playbook of blaming the country’s problems on a scapegoat (Jews, immigrants, Democrats) declaring only HE can drain the swamp, protect us from the (scapegoats) & “make the country great again". I wish there was better education in this country, teaching history, critical thinking skills & resistance to advertising & brainwashing propaganda & rhetoric. Before the rightward shift in this country starting with Reagan, we did teach these things better. The cuts to public education, & allowing home-schooling to take the place of schools without any proof that these home-schooled kids are getting a proper education, has now dumbed down Americans to the point that this kind of radical, authoritarian politics is being accepted by people who think they are being patriotic, while they support someone, who through cult of personality, is convincing them to support exchanging our freedom for authoritarianism & possible dictatorship.
So this is my story and I am sticking with it - Prior to the building of the Simi Valley Freeway back in very early 60's and on a date with the gal I wood later Marry.
She lived in Northridge San Fernando Valley and we were invited to a party in Simi Valley - The old road was mountain climbing like - Lots of narrow twists n turns.
Party over with some good food and great adult drinks but me and her NOT Drunk by any means. Still I was probably at just below Legal Limit - On a turn I slipped a bit and pressed breaks and as luck wood have it there I was car hood face 2 face with a telephone pole - Got out of car to look and could not even get a business card between that pole and the hood of my car.
That AND another trip on way home from my weekend with GF in Northridge - A we bit of wine but again NOT over legal limit - On a sharp curve on freeway (Curve now Gone on 101 - I blew a tire and moved over all 4 lanes QUICKLY -
Now I make damn well sure I have no where near even the legal limit - Got Religion with drink n drive
OF COURSE Dancing Events that are Endorphin boosting have caused me to do Stupid Stuff with Cops clearly around - Several times I have pulled off the road to let the Endorphins Pass B4 continuing to drive under their Influence
