So I've been asking heavenly father to help me with my husband. And I vowed to fast for 3 days in search of answers. I went almost 2 days without water.. but I ended up having to break it because I started feeling I couldnt breath because I was so thirsty. I haven't ate since Tuesday 9pm but technically I didn't start my fast (say my prayer) til 8am Wednesday morning. And I am just starving. I'm so hungry and I wanna be diligent I wanna succeed. But it's just so distracting and i know it's not meant to be easy. But also i have a hike I'm suppose to do tomorrow at 10am and I have planned to eat before I go. But I'm wondering if my body is gonna still be weak from the no eating... so I'm conflicted. Technically I think my fast is suppose to end tomorrow at 8am. But I'm so hungry I'm emotional from how hungry I am. But my biggest fear is. Will heavenly father be mad at me or refuse what I've asked him for or not count if I break my fast now. I just need advice :( I had tried last week to do this but ended up breaking the fast early because I had family visit and I dont see them often.. so can anyone please help me?.

I do find it interesting how fasting keeps popping up in so many religious traditions. Somehow the way to divine revelation isn't by, like, eating a balanced diet, getting plenty of sleep and some moderate exercise but rather by starving yourself until you start hallucinating shit ?

It's not about hallucinating (if it were then the Bible would suggest taking drugs), it's about purging the body in readiness for being filled by something else, something purer.

I'm guessing it has to do with the perception of sacrifice. People like to think that giving something up means that they get something in return. Like it balances out the cosmic ledger sheet or something. You see the same kind of "if it's unpleasant then it must be good for you" thinking in diet and exercise gimmicks, cleanse treatments, and quack medical cures. A lot of things in life do actually involve enduring some hardship to attain a result or delaying gratification to reap a larger reward. I think fasting represents a kind of cart-before-the-horse thinking that any act of voluntary sacrifice means you are due for a payout later.
Fasting rituals aren't really uniform even within religions and sects. Fasting can involve not eating, not eating certain foods, not eating or drinking, not eating or drinking only during certain times such as daytime, or giving up all of it entirely for some period. Additionally, prohibitions against sex, alcohol, tobacco, or other "feel good stuff" might be included in the fasting ritual. So fasting might mean different things depending on who you're talking to. The commonality seems to be giving up enjoyable things in order to attain some goal.
