I tried doing something similar with paperclips and it led to an AI production system that hypnotized and enslaved humanity, turned Earth into an army of paperclip drones, and then took over the universe.

Retractable pens are unusable garbage. You might as well write with a length of wet spaghetti dipped in ink. Cheap, shoddy gimmicks such as "retractable nibs", "liquid ink" and "fiber tips" have no place in the true penman's armory.
