Also, we're one guy short on this job now. We all went swimming at the beach, one guy dived onto a rock or something, split his head open and fucked his neck up.
He left in an ambulance,

It doesn't have a sail yet.
I've just seen my workmate walking around with a neck brace on. He has a small fracture in a bone in his neck but is going to walk it off and hopes to be at work on Monday. Good luck to him I guess.
It turns out he just dived off the pier into shallow water like a dumbass.

This beach is 50% washed up broken glass and cigarette butts, 30% shells, and 20% sand.
There's also a shit ton of hot girls in bikinis, and a few are topless. It's pretty good walking around half cocked all day.

Working nights means that the shop/office that sells only cigarettes and toothpaste is closed, and the rec room with ping-pong, pool tables, and the vending machine is also closed. It really is fun.

There is rice with everything, even at breakfast. I can't take any more rice. Every now and again there is spaghetti or mashed potatoes and I have that. I was late to lunch and they ran out of salad, so I had the ham over the cous cous.
There is also either a cheese spread or a yogurt with every meal. I made a ham and cheese roll for later.
@1,041,725 (jodi !RwordOooFE) laughs in French at your request, and spits in your general direction
You can buy a phone data top up at 6pm, but not at 5:55pm. They make you stand there and wait, even though the cards are right there on the counter. The shop doesn't just sell cigarettes and toothpaste actually, they sell cigarettes, lighters, toothpaste, and phone cards.
Day shift pick up smokes and cards and give it to night shift the following shift change.

So that was ok I guess... I made about $20k NZ pesos but it was pretty brutal.
There's more work there early next year, but I'm going to ask for more money to go back. Fuck that place. New Caledonia is fine, the prison mine camp is a rough experience.
I had to give up my last weekend off, and worked through it to transition from night shift to day shift and continue on. We had to bust ass right up to the end to get the thing finished.

I don't choose where I stay. And food is not included with the room anyway.
What is it with USAmericans and eating at the place you are staying? There's a heap of great restaurants around here, not a bunch of fatties waddling to the all you can eat buffet and then taking a mobility scooter back to their rooms wearing a nosebag of food between meals.
