Giving a child alcohol or Tobacco will cause health problems, and warrant state intervention.
And yet misfeeding a child, which could lead to diabetes- something they are stuck with for life- is not. That is ridiculous.

Obesity is not always the fault of the parents. Public schools tend to be filled with fried and very fatty cheep foods that children can't resist, and parents are getting too lazy to pack a meal every night, so now they rely upon the state to feed their children. In a typical fashion, the state fucks up and now obesity has skyrocketed.

This guy is actually right for once. The school lunch program and the way the FDA regulates it needs to change completely, and in extreme cases families should at least go through some sort of re-education program to teach them how to eat right, or at the very least feed their kids right even if they can't stop stuffing their own fat faces.

No, that's a childish idea and illustates, in my opinion, how willing we are to jump to extremes. Being bad at one aspect of parenting != being a bad parent and deserving to have your child(ren) taken away. The problem lies in the food industry.

No, I'm saying that the convenience of fast-food and high prices of fruit and vegetables, combined with a culture that ties health with the upper-class, have pressured many parents to live with unhealthy diets. The problem has more to do with industrialized (specifically American) society than parenting.

Please stop putting words in my mouth. I'm not saying it's okay; I'm saying that before we swoop children away from their (often well-intending) parents
and jeopardize the child's mental health, we should try to reform the factors that lead to childhood obesity, like making school lunch healthier (perhaps we could allocate money from trivial classes like typing to a healthier menu.)
Taxing junk food while lowering the price of health food is the ideal option, but of course that would take a while to push.
