We can have a supply of socks and glue-on googly eyes available. Anyone who wants to have a "friend" participate in the conversation has to make a puppet and talk in a funny voice to be recognized as a different person.

Hmmm... That is a problem. My first instinct is to experiment with grafting on tentacles and additional chunks of motor cortex to control them. While that's a really exciting idea, it isn't very realistic. I guess they could get really good at switching personas rapidly. That probably won't be great for their mental health, but Minichan is known for its sane and grounded userbase who all have a solid hold on reality. I wouldn't worry too much.
