After the events in The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons, we find Link riding upon Dimitri's back away from the celebrating villagers. Dimitri promises to show Link how to celebrate in the way of his kind.

Link and Dimitri come to a special tree Link had not encountered during his travels. On it grew a fruit that almost appeared like bombs. Dimitri explained that these fruits are one of his species' favorite and most valued food sources. Sadly, some of the more foolish dodongos were known for eating bombs, mistaking them for this tree's fruit.

Suddenly Link was overcome with a feeling of heaviness. His senses started firing like crazy. Something in the fruit had a magical, transformative effect on humans when eaten. No wonder the tree was so well hidden!

A spiky horn grew out of Link's head, surprising him. He tried to cover it with his hands, but that was the least of his troubles! He was growing larger, heavier, his new girth splitting his Hyrulian clothing as his hide became like a thick armor. Link let out a cry of alarm as a tail grew out from behind him. It was only then that he realized his mouth was different now, too!

Finally the size of his companion, the incredibly massive and heavy dodongo named Link falls back onto his rump, landing on his tattered clothing. Dimitri worries belatedly that Link might not enjoy being changed into a dodongo and wonders if he should have given Link some warning. Was it an okay surprise? Would Link like being a dodongo from now one?

The answer is yes. Link is already quite happy with the idea of keeping his new form. though right now he is mostly just hungry. Fortunately for Link, Dodongos can eat virtually anything. And this is one adventurer that knows better than to eat a bomb! After all... dodongo dislikes smoke... or so the rumor goes.
