As soon as the installation starts, a popup window appears saying "A required CD/DVD device driver is missing" and it won't continue. Which is weird, because it's clearly using the DVD drive, yet it claims it doesn't have the drivers to use said DVD drive.
And yeah, if the USB thing doesn't work, I'm going to try XP and use that until I can get a new DVD drive.

Do yourself a favor and give up on 7 and get another OS running on there, I'd suggest trying XP because you will be able to dual-boot another Windows OS easily. If you install Linux first its difficult/impossible (I can't remember which offhand) to dual boot a Windows OS.

Huh? I haven't had a new computer in three years, and a new desktop in seven.
Also, created bootable USB, MS' program gave an error about not being able to use "bootsect". So I grabbed "bootsect.exe" from my Win7 32-bit disc and ran it myself. It didn't work. Trying something else now.

Install XP and run the 7 Upgrade Advisor. It'll tell you what hardware is compatible with your system and what you need to do to install 7.

Well I got Win7 installed. No drivers though, for anything. USB drives give errors about being unable to install drivers, generic LAN drivers don't work so I can't get online, and either the generic DVD drive drivers are incompatible or my drive is shit (won't read the discs right to let me install drivers). I have another, even older, DVD drive that I'm going to try in case it's the drive.

Welp, I switched out DVD drives and installed all my drivers. All's well, but there's one issue. I think my computer is murdering my flash drives. Every flash drive I plug into it, it gives an error about a malfunctioning device. Then no other computer recognizes it. This has happened to two flash drives, including the one I used to install the OS in the first place. wat

Well guys, mystery solved. I suddenly realized something about the flash drives. I had plugged the first two in, at some point, the front USB ports. Then when plugging them into the back, it gave me the errors. The third flash drive, however, was only plugged into the back. So, feeling adventurous, I unplugged my USB mouse, and plugged it into every single port on the back. It worked every time. So, to test my theory, I grabbed the flash drive that survived. I made sure it worked again, then plugged it into the front. A red light in the flash drive starts going fucking crazy, then the computer starts to spit out MOTHER FUCKING SMOKE. HOLY SHIT. CAPS LOCK. So I pulled it out, burned my fingers, turned off my computer, opened it up, and unplugged those bastard front-panel USB ports. At least there was no damage though (except the flash drives of course).
Yeah, I know, I probably plugged them into the wrong place on the motherboard or something. Fucking worthless motherboard manual.

ASUS gave me only one q-connector but i have four front panel usb ports so only half of them work now
