Topic: McBecky's review of Panera Bread's Toasted Tuscan Grilled Chicken

beckyderp !DONgSbOYdw started this discussion 6 years ago #90,192

Externally hosted imageHave you ever noticed the particular smell that hits your nose when you enter a livestock barn at a state fair? It's not purely stale manure, because everyone is trying a little harder than they normally would to make their livestock not smell like shit, but it's some combination of dirt, straw, and hay, and the bit of fresh manure they haven't been able to clean up yet. Smells like Amish people, rustic-like, natural. But not something you want to eat.

That is precisely the smell that greets you when you open up a box containing the Panera Bread Toasted Tuscan Grilled Chicken. I've been able to narrow down the source of the rustic manure smell, and it's the "smoky tomato confit" they put on the sandwich. Without that bizarre addition, it's actually a pretty good sandwich. The chicken is the real standout, with small, tender pieces that are lovingly marinated in something that doesn't taste like a state fair barn smells.

However, the manure isn't even my biggest complaint here. Why on EARTH would you put the word "toasted" before "Tuscan"? Isn't that wrong?

Anyway, without the manure confit I give this a 7.5/10. With the manure confit, it's a 4.

Thanks and zoom.

A recommendation if I may. Ask Panera about alternatives for the barnyard confit. You might and this will take some hootspa, order the Toasted Tuscan sandwich and take it to Subway and ask them to give you two shots of their NEW Basil and olive oil concoction (Offering a tip in advance should do the trick)

Subway also has a new Herb Olive oil blend and you can mix and match with the Basil Oil for the most perfect of combo.

This will be TMI - I have given UP on Subway Cold Cut Combo with Subway tasteless Tomatoes - I buy Romas and let them ripen until just right in a bowl and add my own slices to the sandwich when I get home - I also add small super thin slices of Imported Italian Salami. A double shot of the New Basil Oil and one shot of the Herb Oil on Italian Herb and Cheese bread works for me.

Lol this was a grate review!! I felt like I was there alongside you being disappointed about the sandwich smell.

But I have to disagree re: toasted. It's a Tuscan grilled chicken sandwich. Since they toasted it, the adjective should come first. Otherwise it's like Tuscan Grilled Sandwich that's Toasted.

What kind of maniacal weirdo buys a sandwich at Panera then takes it to Subway for oil? God.

Clearly IF she likes the "Toasted Tuscan Grilled Chicken" but does not like the "smoky tomato confit"
She can look for alternatives. Panera has Marinara, Pesto, Garlic and oil.

The Marinara is probably what she should ask for a sample - Maybe even ask for Pesto and mix the two - Panera employees love tips and they also tend to smile when asked for some variation. HOWEVER the Panera Pesto is nowhere what Subway offers because one look at the rather dull Pesto blend at Panera vs the Pesto which is bright fresh Green Pesto at Subway - Anyway becky could even do as I do and customize what she likes at Panera with some addition she adds at home.

AND look at this
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Confit

"Condiment confit
Italian cooking uses a number of "condiment confits," such as onion confit, chili confit, and garlic confit."

So Panera has cough cough Expanded define of Confit to include
> rustic manure smell, and it's the "smoky tomato confit"
https://www.cookinglight.com/recipes/cherry-tomato-confit

I am in final prep for a Monday Biz meeting or I wood look for jars of Tomato Confit for purchase at local CLASS ACT store - Whole Foods or such. Did look at Tomato Confit images and one did pop out as store bought buttttt becky is probably going to reject the Tomatoes with the Funghi.

Something that both becky and Syntax would do though.

They actually carve out some of the bread from the top so it's a consistent thickness, and not too bready. Thank you.

I don't even know how to respond to this shit. Why did you think talking about tomatoes was TMI? Who the fuck takes a sandwich to a Subway to be improved?

@1,027,905 (Fake anon !ZkUt8arUCU)
Perhaps we should leave the syntax questions to Syntax. If only he had posted in this thread. I wish I knew where to find him.

I don't no how to respond to someone that accepts a manure barnyard aroma and eats that sandwich.

And I fully expect you as a member of the Bar might even know where he can be found.

I even typed in Syntax's moniker in name: And removed it because I am not so sure I have his permission.

Maybe you just go to Subway and buy a side of whatever. I used to date a woman who loved Ribs from one place but disliked the side of sauce. She found another place with Ribs that were not as good but had the ideal sauce on the side. So can you guess what "We did" That simple. Sure we had to pay for the side of sauce like maybe 50cents back then and make the extra effort to go to the 2nd place.

So many choices in life and sometimes to get what you want you just do what it takes to have it your way.

Everyday or do they change the menu. Do they vary the jelly?

They have different foods daily,, but those are the picky people foods. We have four types of jelly. Strawberry, grape, blackberry, and mixed fruit
