Steel? Hell yes.

Yes absolutely. 3mm steel with a steel rod welded through it would hold a couple of hundred kgs like that.
Plastic would hold a 1.5kg speaker

ok wait i guessed 3mm but i looked at it and 3mm is way to thick for me to really process. I was thinking i could score at those edges, drill holes for a wooden rod (steel rod would cost more than these speakers did). should i use plastic sheet instead? that does seem pretty hip.

I'd use tinted or coloured perspex. It bends easily with heat, easy to drill, would hold up a speaker etc.

Just build it out of an old shower curtain rod and some used cardboard. It'll be fine.

AC/DC would knock that thing over.

or bamboo

Does your dad have a circular saw? Make it out of stacked plywood profiles glued together and sanded. You could cut a lot of Z shapes easily. It would change the look a lot with the side profile being much thicker maybe 20mm+ so maybe not your thing.

You forgot to include the weight of the speaker cooling pad you'll be using.

No that's not mine. And I don't think you quite understand what's happening with the plywood there. It's not being bent, that's profiles stacked and glued on top of each other.
Plywood generally has lighter colored sheets on the outside of the laminate, so that looks like 8 profiles glued together.

yes i got that but i dont understand how you would cut them to get that shape

With a jigsaw, or a bandsaw, or get them cut on a router or a laser. The guy that made that just drew a squiggly thing and then changed each layer a little and sanded it back when it was all glued together.
