What exactly is American food? Other than Mexican and Mex Tex. Originally America was discovered by Leif Eriksson and I doubt any recipes of his time remain here.
Later Christopher Columbus financed by Spain - He may have taken the Tomato back for Italians to use.
Based on how crummy UK food was - Doubt anyone was impressed enough to continue to use them in the Americans after the 1st 50 years,
