Here's why. I was paying $9.99/month for unlimited streaming and unlimited discs in the mail (one at a time.) Netflix is splitting these two services into 2 distinct plans. $7.99/month for unlimited streaming and $7.99/month for unlimited discs in the mail. That means that to continue to get the same service I get now for $9.99/month, I'll have to pay for both of these services separately for a total of $15.98/month, or a 60% increase in price.
Fuck that. I haven't been using the service much lately anyway, and a 60% increase in price out of the blue is ridiculous. Netflix is clearly getting cocky, and I think I'll just start using other services like Hulu, Youtube, OnDemand, etc, more often.

There is a lot of stuff worth watching in their instant streaming library, but a) a lot of stuff in their library can be streamed from other sources for free or for less money and b) I don't think it's worth $8/month considering how much of their content is only available through the mail. I don't want to pay another $8 on top of that to get other stuff in the mail, nor do I want to pay $8/month to get discs in the mail but then not have any access to their streaming library.
The bottom line is, I liked the plan I had where I got one disc at a time and unlimited streaming for $10/month, I thought that was a fair deal, and they want to charge another $6/month for the same service. I'm not going for it.

I dropped satellite TV this year in favor of just internet, while I do miss TV a bit there's quite enough available on the net. I'm under the impression that you were paying for cable AND netflix? You can set up a torrent slave/entertainment tower for quite cheap, then all you'll have is an internet bill. There's some sweet programs for organizing torrent DL's, so sweet its better than cable and netflix combined. Pretty much all you'll miss is the news...

Exactly this. Now that they have less competition, they think they can raise their prices, but what they're not counting on is services like Hulu, OnDemand, et al, will use it as an opportunity to break into the market.

I'm pretty sure they charge you for lost discs, even if they're lost in the mail and not your fault. Probably because it's too easy for people to claim they were lost in the mail to hold on to discs they want.
