Sonic the Hedgehog used to be the coolest game character around, fiercely competing with Mario. There was a time when Sega was dominating the console market and raping Nintendo with the Sega Genesis. I had my Genesis with all kinds of games when my cousin gave it to me so he could make space for his new PlayStation. Even if it was a hand-me-down, I still loved it. I had a lot of games like Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Vectorman, Shinobi, and of course the Sonic series. I only had the canon games, but it didn’t matter; I was too busy running through corkscrews and chasing after an obese evil scientist. It used to mean something to be a Sonic fan…that is of course until furries came and ruined it.Even to this day, I still play the old Genesis Sonic titles, from my computer or through my phone, thanks to emulation. Years later, when the Dreamcast came out, I saved up so I could purchase one. Of course, I bought Sonic Adventure but something didn’t feel right. Although I did enjoy the game, it just wasn’t as fun as Super Mario 64, and I wasn’t used to the many changes made. Sonic Adventure 2 came out, and I bought it at my local GameStop on release date. Something still didn’t feel right.
I wasn’t exactly happy when the art style started looking more eastern as opposed to the western style it was usually given. Sonic was a Japanese made franchise, but an American hero. And plots, plots that seem like they were written by a ten year old, in my Sonic games? What this madness was, I couldn’t tell at the time as I was still relatively little. As I began to use the internet more, I discovered furries and deviantArt, two things that make the internet unbearable when mixed. With unnecessary characters and use of an anime art style, it was almost as if Sega wanted to attract more of these fur loving heathens.
In those early days, I didn’t possess the animosity I have for furries like I do now. But seeing all the “original characters†(which were simply recolors of Sonic characters with extra features like a mohawk) and fanfics, declaring myself as a fan of the franchise became increasingly remorseful. And to add to injury, all the Sonic games were shit and were given negative reviews. Even Sonic 4, a game that was supposedly going to bring Sonic back to its roots, was nothing short of futile attempt. Sonic Generations is looking promising, but I’ll reserve my judgment when I play it. Still, it doesn’t change the fact of Sonic’s embarrassing fan base.
With furry porn brings even worse things to the table, and I no longer claimed to be a fan of Sonic. The Sonic Team has ruined my hopes for the franchise, and furries had ruined my hopes with humanity. At least Mario fans weren’t slapped across the face with the most uninspiring “original†characters, or a very spoiled fan base. But my rant is nothing new, as most of the internet already despises furries and a lot of us know how they ruin everything with their intolerable fan art and yiffing.
