LOL The story that redstate.com is running about this is hilarious. A media outlet that makes its money writing unashamedly slanted articles full of accusation and insinuation is apparently shocked and appalled that The Washington Post got away with writing something that might have caused someone to insinuate something once.

Because people hate Trump enough that hurting other people is irrelevant to them

It took me nearly a full minute to figure out you were talking about redstate.com, and not the Washington Post ?

I'd be interested in the Venn diagram overlap of people who feel like this was the wrong decision but also feel that Alex Jones can say whatever he likes and shouldn't be held liable for a few crazies who listen to him.

I feel like you are being purposefully dense. Even on the View, Meridith Viera said that everyone acted so crazy did so because they hated Trump. She used it as an excuse like the boy was his right arm or something

The funny thing is I couldn't tell if the redstate.com article was intentional self-satire. It is certainly written that way.

Because the same people who feel that the journalists shouldn't bd able to be punished for this, also believe that Alex Jones shouldn't have a platform

I feel like I already know what those people would say though. That's why I'm interested in the slice of people on the opposite end. The false and defamatory statements alleged in the Sandmann complaint basically amount to quoting Nathan Phillips and using some words to describe the movement of the crowd that some people thought were unfair. I would assume the slice of people you are referring to would say there's a big difference between directly quoting people who were involved with a story and the kind of outrageous accusations that people like Alex Jones make.
The people I wonder about are the people who seem to think the press should be free to say anything, but object to the judge dismissing this complaint.

I'd apply the same thing to RedState too.
I don't regularly visit RedState. I do remember they were very anti-Trump before the nomination. Glancing at their stories on Trump now they appear to have jumped on the Trump Train. I don't trust them though because they showed their true colors in 2015. They didn't want Trump, they just sort of grudgingly accepted him as a Republican president. This distinction is important to some people. To me this is actually worse than #NeverTrumpers who at least have the honesty and conviction to stick to their principles. I would say any Republican media outlet that opposed Trump before it was clear that he would win the nomination is at best suspect and not to be trusted.

@previous (Meta !Sober//iZs) > they appear to have jumped on the Trump Train
Yeah, RedState made news about a year and a half ago for firing all their staff who were criticizing Trump. I'm certainly not accusing them of being a fair and balanced source in all this, but they make for a pretty good barometer of the kind of opinions that get pushed out by die-hard MAGA types. It was the first place I read about this story. It was amusing to see them describe Nathan Phillips as a "fraudulent sac of pus" in the same article shaming the Washington Post for biased reporting. At first I thought they were being intentionally abusive to poke fun at the dismissal, but it looks like that kind of writing is pretty common judging from older articles about Pelosi and AOC.
