Topic: My cat got fatter and now she aparrantly cant groom well anymore

Anonymous A started this discussion 6 years ago #89,365

The hair immediately in front of her tail on her back stays clumpy and tangled no matter how much I try to brush and comb it.
She is a long hair who has always groomed well before. But she went from being an outdoor cat a couple of years ago to being indoor 99% of the time.

my cat got weighed at the vet after he was horrifically injured and lost a lot of weight from almost-dying, skin hanging off bones, and he was still 14 lbs

it depends on your cat. try not free-feeding and doing a breakfast/dinner thing. most pet food bags will have recommended portions for weight loss/maintenance/gain on them now so... read the bag
you could also switch to an 'indoor cat' formula. they just have fewer calories proteins fats etc for more sedentary cats. same with senior food too though.
