Topic: Best dog to own for a 2 bedroom flat

Svet !jzYkdX7lIw started this discussion 6 years ago #89,356

Girlfriend wants a dog and I might agree as it means she has more ties here and so less chance she'll dump me.

Reccomend me a breed for a medium sized flat. Dog might be left alone for 10 hours a day. I think that's bad but is there a breed that's okay with that?

Border Collie. It can be trained not to shit in flat. If you don't have time for training, don't bother with any dog.

Yeah, sounds like a bad idea. I might be buying a house soon so might wait till I have a garden

That said ive had to leave my heinz 57 dog for 10 hours a day before and she was ok, i just really needed to walk her just before leaving and just after returning and give her lots of love

Do not get a dog if you cannot devote tons of time to it, walk it many times per day, exercise, do not leave it alone for hours, etc. It is not fair to the dog.

So dont get a dog if you have a job, go to school, or are otherwise anything but a retiree?

Also how many times a day must you walk a dog?

Have you ever met a dog?

Unless you have a really open schedule or a partner to help, that is correct. Keeping a dog locked in a flat for hours and hours at a time is cruel. You should walk it 5+ times a day, ESPECIALLY if you live in flat. I have owned and trained dogs all of my life.

Too big. I had a couple of cats before the ex took them and they were great. Trouble is, current girlfriend isn't into cats.

adopt an elderly dog? lower energy, less time commitment

it might not be ridiculous if you have other dogs and people in and out of the house all the time but leaving a dog alone for 10 hours a day is more ridiculous tbh

@svet does she have a dog-ready ass?

Anonymous G joined in and replied with this 6 years ago, 1 hour later, 21 hours after the original post[^] [v] #1,020,319

The main reason ppl walk their dogs is so it will shit somewhere besides their yard.
I hate seeing some assholee letting his dog shit in someone's yard like that.

So, she can take the knot? I will be very upset if I get there and she can not take the knot.
