God, Cats is so depressing.

I did see a performance of Cats.

I used to jerk off to Cats on PBS when they would show the Broadway show on TV

My favorite part was the people in the weird makeup and costumes prancing around

If cats was so weird, why did they apparently show it so much? Also, did elitism destroy the opera? It's like you never hear anyone going to the opera and if they did it would seem out of place.

Actually yes. The word opera just means work, and that work is a combination of music and lyrics. In the case of Cats, the words are by TS Eliot and the music is by Andrew Lloyd Webber.

LOL Thanks for your special internet opinion. I think I'll stick with the terminology that everybody who works in theater uses instead.

I see you were so unsure of that opinion that you had to look it up on wikipedia. Thanks.

Glad to hear it. I've been involved in over 20 musical theatre productions, including Cats. Oh, and I also have a musicology degree.

Then you have no excuse for being such a moron.
Don't quit your day-job kid, which I'm sure is probably brain surgery and test piloting fighter jets.

Ah yes, run out of good arguments => resort to ad hominem attacks - familiar pattern.
Carry on thinking opera is just old ladies warbling (or whatever it is you believe) if you like. I'm sorry your education system let you down so badly.

You said in another thread that your favorite piece of musical theatre is Jesus Christ Superstar. Please explain why the composer himself (as well as your best source, Wikipedia) describes it as being a "rock opera".

rock Opera is musical theater not Opera
kind of like how a soap opera isn't an opera at all

You copied and pasted the definition of opera from Wikipedia, evidently also not noticing that whichever ignoramus wrote it couldn't decide how to spell the word "theatre".

There is absolutely no point in arguing with people who will insist that black is white and cannot possibly entertain the notion even for one second that their world view just might be a tiny bit skewed. George Lucas also dared to describe Star Wars as a "space opera". God, what a fucking moron. He and AL Webber clearly don't know what they're talking about. Wikipedia and some anonymous poster on an obscure internet BBS know far more about what the word means - it can only mean old ladies warbling with ugly vibrato - duh.
