Dried beans can be stored for longer in an apocalyptic disaster scenario, so people prep for that. Canned foods will eventually deteriorate, if given long enough.

I do! I tend to keep around 40 pounds of dry legumes and grains on hand. I soak them in the fridge for about 24 hours before cooking.

Works well, man.
