I read an article on this once and the answer is "not really" though I personally doubt the military would actually launch nuclear missiles unless some real shit was going down.

I mean I believe the people in charge of actually sending the missiles would not do it unless the conditions warranted it. I don't know exactly who (I'm not an expert on nuclear launch procedures) but I really doubt it would happen if Trump just decided to nuke Canada tomorrow or something.
