I turned on my desktop this morning to find it had contracted a rather nasty piece of malware called thegoodcatch. I had to disable IE and uninstall Firefox to get it under control, but I think its still lurking somewhere on the hard drive. Any advice on how to remove it completely would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you have the explorer.exe virus. Try killing the process if it's running
