My theory is that it helps weed out the sane people right away.
Kind of like how Nigerian email scams kept being a thing even after it became a cliche. The only people responding and taking the spam seriously were too out of touch to know better. Because normal people see that and immediately write it off, the people who respond are self-selecting for gullibility.

If you believe you are subjected to mind control (thoughts planted, feel the irrational need to do certain things) then try to (re)act random, or do not (re)act at all. You may want to use a dice to delay things, e.g. number 3 is delay 3 minutes etc. You may also want to change the order in which you do things.
