Chalk and cheese. Jamaican is closer to Nigerian, but not too much. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_vlRvq2rT0

How does Jamaican Patois resemble South African english speakers that emulate speak in UK.
OP they have treatments for ears plugged up with 8 Oz of ear wax.

in South African English, vowels tend to the short e as in bed. Mathematics sounds like methemetics.

I know someone ostensibly from South Africa but with a fake Jamaican accent. Should I point out that I know she's faking it?

I think she started to lose her real accent because she's been here like 30 years or something and then she watched Cool Runnings once and decided that would be her new accent

Maybe it feels like a comfortable transition for her? Trying to emphasize or clip vowel sounds to affect an accent doesn't always work out flawlessly. It's fun to hear people trying to do an accent slip into another one accidentally. I was listening to someone from New Zealand try to do a Transatlantic accent (like old-timey radio announcers) and it was the most awesome thing ever. They ended up sounding vaguely Texan. If I try to read anything in pidgin out loud I inevitably end up sounding like Miss Cleo.

We have a lot of French speaking Island blacks where I work. They watch French videos on their phones very loudly and don't use ear buds

Been a bunch of years but I have been to Haiti. Good memories except for Ex GF that decided to take a course in Voodoo.
Brought back a bunch of fun art. She brought back - that story for some other time.
