Not sure exactly what you mean by "big boxes". Arcade cabinets, I guess?
Home consoles were well established by the time I was growing up, so arcade machines weren't something I used a lot. But I did like those ones where you held a plastic gun and shot people. I usually died on them pretty quickly, but they were still fun.

The SA games were pretty awesome, yeah. I doubt I'd enjoy them now, but kid me had a blast with them.
