I actually don't think vaccines cause autism specifically. I'm not really against the multitude of shots a kid has to have for school, but I am against the flu shot and things like that.

Why, out of interest? Flu vaccination is demonstrably safe and effective.

As an example, my mom got a TB vaccination and had a reaction to it, and had a cough for almost two weeks.
I don't think they're as effective as people say they are. I figure most folk are already halfway sick already, so they get a flu shot that keeps them from going full blown sick and they report it as working.
I don't know, I guess I'd rather my body build it's own immunities instead of getting a shot every year

Don't underestimate the flu. It can be lethal, especially for those in vulnerable populations (the elderly, diabetics, the immunocompromised, etc.). The side effects from the flu vaccine are trivial in 99.9% of cases. > I don't think they're as effective as people say they are. I figure most folk are already halfway sick already
Maybe! Regression to the mean is always worth considering, but I don't think it's the case here. There are decent analyses of the UK's flu vaccination programme, with positive findings, and our system notifies vulnerable folk and arranges appointments as appropriate, so there's no real self-selection.
> I don't know, I guess I'd rather my body build it's own immunities instead of getting a shot every year
There's no difference whatsoever in allowing your immune system to establish immunity versus vaccination. You're getting the same immunoglobulins over the same period (2-4 weeks) and the idea there's an "antibody strength" or anything similar is nonsense.
The only real difference is the price extracted: live infections are deleterious, but vaccination (again, in the overwhelming majority of cases) is perfectly safe; you might get the sniffles, or sore muscles.

I don't want to outlaw the shots or anything, I just don't pursue them personally.

Yeah, I get that, but I genuinely don't think there's good reasoning for not getting the vaccination. Nothing based in science. I worked for a bloke whose missus was a perfectly healthy 30yo who died from flu complications. It can kill anybody.

Propaganda repeated a million times is still not necessarily tduth... although simpletons are indeed influenced.
So called Doctors used to put leeches on people to suck out the sickness.

It could be something to do with my depression. I mean it would suck to die from flu complications, but it sucks to live.

let's add suicide by not getting your annual flu shot to the list
not only is it cheaper than $20 - it'll save you money!

I don't actually think that I was being facetious to make a joke thanks. Vaccinate your kids.

The Christmas before last I caught the flu, and it developed into a chest infection that caused me to injure my ribcage from coughing too much and left me bedbound for a week.
Then the year after I got the jab and didn't get sick at all even when everyone around me did.

I never get the flu shot. I last had the flu in 2002.
