I think judging other people harshly until life humbles you is just part of being human. I'd hope he's kinder about this kind of thing now. But if not, then I'll agree that this particular thing makes him a hypocrite and a bad person.
Of course, he's still a terrible person in just about every other regard.

This is a classically conservative outlook. Ubdesriables deserve zero compassion and death and/or prison. But when it's one of them, then an exception is made.
