The deal is: With your education, you end up getting a career that has a salary and benefits. Your overall debt will be chump change along the way.
Debt is just like a pothole on the road of life. It's there and then gets filled in and is no longer bumpy.

That's the goal. I'll probably apply for a master's maybe next year but need some time out of academia, fucking burnt out. And I'd like to have...at least half my student debt paid off before going back. I saved up a few months rent, i don't eat all that much, pretty much quit doing drugs, and am spending a lot less money on smokes/beer/food/fun stuff due to aforementioned dealer so i can go hard on that

You're not going to work this job forever! The first full time real job that hires you b/c of your degree will likely start at $20/hr at the very least. At $40k/year before taxes you can probably pay that off in 3-5 years (less if you earn more obvs).

Part time because school! Oh fuck, yeah i wasnt working for half of last summer and most of the summer before because i was doing field schools, most of which required residing elsewhere. Forgot about that. K nvm not as consistently employed as i thought, but every job i didn't hate happily hired me back after absences. Current boss spent the past month making scheduling exceptions for me which sometimes required him to help me out to get shit done on time (which is usually an exceptional occurrence)

Math you your debt... and then square it. That is what you will truly be paying.

I assume this is college fees?
When I hear about people's college debts I feel so glad I dropped out to play computer games.
I'll always have those memories of riding across Tatooine on my speeder and later becoming a Jedi, levelling up across azeroth, forming a guild and defeating the Litch king and all without accumulating debt.

And just how will Brexit help your memory?

Most of it is school fees, plus a surprise $600 hydro bill (100 is covered by past roommates, another 100 is supposed to be but we'll see, another 250 i have to just eat because deadbeats but if my bud ends up back in jail he'll punch out one of those deadbeats for me) and $1500 credit card because i suck at money
Paid june rent just now, have july and august and half of september stashed, once i have September in full I'll start hardcore paying this shit down
...i hope
Turns out keeping labeled envelopes of money stashed is actually a good way of managing it, makes it way easier to compartmentalize and not touch the stashes

I also have trouble reducing my credit card. I keep mine at around 2k. Trouble is it seems like a harmless debt, everytime I reduce it I put it back on.

Yeah i have that same problem
Im trying to keep all my transactions besides a few recurring bills (phone/cat insurance on credit card, hydro on debit) in cash, hoping the tangibility will help. Well, tangibility and just not being able to access whatever dollars i leave at home, i am pretty bad for getting drunk and waking up with an empty wallet.

That’s really cheap rent. Are you living inside a broom closet?

Big three bedroom (split two ways, one bedroom is a jam space). each room individually (including bathroom, kitchen, living room, and patio) is super spacious. Fifteen minute walk from the metro. I know a bunch of people who live in the building or in the neighboring blocks.
I love this place
Edit thats not super unusual rent for this city tho. It's getting rarer with gentrification but still very much a thing

Last bachelor i rented tho was $650 in a neighborhood next to downtown (fifteen minute walk to my downtown University) but with all the parks a block away from the food/clubs/bars/shopping, cat-friendly, appliances included, pretty spacious

I have $175 cash which should keep me good for a while and the paycheck i get monday is $500.50, gonna try to ignore my bank account balance so its there as backup
