(Warning: 2009 news!)
The supermarket chain Iceland has dropped the singer Kerry Katona from its advertising after the News of the World published pictures allegedly showing her taking cocaine.
Iceland said last night that while it had stood by her during earlier personal difficulties, it was now "impossible" for her to continue in its advertising campaign.
"For most of that time, she has been a successful part of our advertising campaigns, but has also been through some tough times in her personal life," the retailer added.
"We have always stood by her, as an example of a normal person and mum who has experienced some of the modern-day culture of fame, and how difficult it can be to deal with.
"However, following the most recent allegations, we feel it is impossible for Kerry to continue to work with us as one of the faces of Iceland advertising.
"In recognition of the relationship we have developed, we will continue to try and help Kerry to ensure she get the most appropriate support, should she require our assistance."
On Sunday, the News of the World published photographs and video footage of the 28-year-old mother of four that it said showed her snorting cocaine in the bathroom of her home in Wilmslow, Cheshire.
Iceland's contract with Katona, the former Atomic Kitten singer and winner of ITV's I'm a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here!, was reportedly worth £250,000. She has fronted its advertising campaigns for four years.
Iceland stuck with the singer after she slurred her words during an appearance on ITV's This Morning last October.
It was understood to have remained loyal partly because it had already filmed its expensive Christmas TV adverts. But Iceland expressed its displeasure at the time, stating that Katona should not have appeared on the programme. Katona blamed her disorientation on medication for bipolar disorder.
Today her former publicist Max Clifford told the Daily Star that "with every year that goes by she gets closer and closer to a very tragic end".
MTV has broadcast several reality TV shows about the singer, most recently Kerry Katona: What's the Problem?, about her mental illness. But the music broadcaster is understood to have no further series planned.
Last August, Katona was declared bankrupt after failing to pay off a £417,000 tax bill and in May this year she told GMTV that she was "skint".
Iceland has not announced a replacement for Katona. The chain uses other celebrities including Coleen Nolan, the singer and star of ITV's Loose Women, to promote its supermarkets.
If I remember correctly wasn't she born on September 6th 1980, which would make her 38? And I seem to recall she has 5 children, not 4. This article is very poorly researched.
