Right up until the end, he payed all his doctors to say that he was in perfect health too. Weird that he should suddenly die like that when he had paid or threatened all the right people to say the exact opposite.

lol he did not pay anyone. He had total control. He told them what to say, and they dared not refuse.

LOL I'm sure that "total control" had nothing to do with his power over their jobs or livelihoods. I'm pretty sure he was paying people to do stuff, even if it was paying people to beat up the people who didn't do stuff he wanted them to do.

I am a bit of an amateur but expert on DPRK. He does not “pay people” for loyalty per se. The Kims rule with fear, not money.

I thought so too but it's apparently a very complex system. There's factions and rules, they can hold onto power with fear but to be able to rule they also need to give the right people a piece of the pie.

But kim jong un, didn't he give a lot of gifts to the scientists who actually know something about making nuclear weapons, when he decided to increase its production?

There's perks too I'd say, other than not starving to death. Like housing, luxury watches... Flat tv screens and stuff. It also seems their free market experiment keeps expanding.
