I want to move my small shitty town and into Portland. Portland MAINE not Oregon, fuck that hipster cesspool. But I don't really know how moving to a new city works. You can't really go to job interviews or do irl job searching without already living in the general area. And in order to live in the area you must have a job so you can pay for rent. Have job lined up before you make the move, any shitty job will do as long it covers the bills, find a better job once you're there. Its really the only way, unless you have a boatload of money to burn through supporting yourself.

But that's what I'm saying, how the crap do you have a job in a city you're miles and miles away from? If you lived outside the city limits you could take a taxi or your own car into the city every day going for job interviews. But I live way up in northern Maine.

For starters, you need money to support yourself for at least the first month there. Since, even if you have a job secured you'll have to wait 15 days up to a month till the first salary comes in.
Job searching is easy. Just google companies in that area, look if they are hireing, or go to the area for a day or two to sattle everything job related. Once you got that you're ready to move.

Apply to everything, try to set up a few interviews on the same day, go to interviews and secure the job. Sometimes you can barter an over-the-phone interview, depending on the distance, job, interviewer etc. It took me two trips to secure one job, (interview and subsequent pre-hire drug screening), it sucked, but like I said before, its the only way. This is how people do it man.
