The rumor is that the new album - their first in 13 years - could be just a month or two away from release.

Swans, Godspeed You! Back Emperor, Metallica, REM and Dream Theater (I might squeeze Iron Maiden in there too, for the Killers - Seventh Son run). But...

No, not that level. Bands like Zeppelin, Beatles, The Who, Pink Floyd, Queen, Genesis...those are another level altogether because they helped pioneer and then master entire styles of music. Other than possibly Swans, there are no bands of the last 20 years (to my knowledge) that have really done anything new. Possibly Radiohead with their merging of genres on Kid A and In Rainbows? But other than that, I don't think there's much original going on, and originality is important to me when determining 'greatness' in art. Heck, even Metallica at their 80s best were just a melding of Diamond Head, Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath.
