1. document any useful configurations (like port forwarding) that are needed
2. do a web search for the default address, username, and password for the make and model
3. do a web search for reset instructions for the make and model (fail-safe default is usually to press the reset button for ~30 seconds and then power cycle the device)
4. log in to the default address with the default credentials and restore the configurations
5. change the router credentials and give the wifi a name that indicates visitors are welcome
6. restore the previous configurations as needed

Works for almost all major router brands, you have to hold it down for 10-30 seconds depending on model. And unless you've changed your password or other settings, you won't notice a difference. The reset button just restores it to factory settings and most folks just have factory settings.

I have a slight feeling it's not your cousins router, and "she" doesn't really want to open up her wifi.
Easiest way is to hook a PC/Laptop to the router up to it via ethernet cable, and just access it without any restrictions.
But I guess since you're trying to steal your neighbors WiFi, no physical approach is possible.

If it has a reset button it will work, its just a matter of doing it right, be it not holding it long enough, or turning it off and on afterwords etc. If the button is there, it will reset to factory settings.

I think it’s the Broadcomm CPUs that have this routine hardcoded into them…
1. press reset button for 30 seconds with router on
2. unplug the router power for 30 seconds while still pressing reset
3. provide power to device and continue holding the reset button for 30 seconds
That is the super reset that prompts the device to fully reset the NVRAM that contains the firmware and ensures everything is the factory default. It worked for me when I flashed new firmware onto my Linksys 150N.

Well, simply pressing the reset button until the lights start to flash (~10 seconds) usually is successful at setting Broadcomm configs to their defaults. That routine is really only needed for firmware fuckery.
