Unfortunately, you have a good point. When you look at the number of Americans who are still opposed to gay marriage, still don't believe in evolution, and still think we're a nation founded on Christianity, yeah, we've got a serious problem.
A good number of them still can't find Iraq on a map, still don't know the Bill of Rights, and still don't understand basic laws of physics. I know adults who still think that heavier objects fall faster. America is paving the way back to the Dark Ages.

The religious do not want to "ban" your constitutionally granted freedoms.
Banning religion is wrong because there is no entity with legitimate authority to do so.
If tolerance is limited, you become the intolerant, to whom tolerance must be limited. Your faulty logic is responsible for things like the Palestine-Israel conflict. Tolerance must always be practiced.
