He used to stalk people's profiles, sometimes posting people's obscured IPs and making allusions to doxxing them. I never really cared, but having a mod do things like that is a bit shitty. Posting anything about somebody they didn't personally share themselves is a poor move IMO, unless they're a public figure or something.
Hardly the crimes of the century, but I can see why it upset people.

He sort of explained the rational behind geolocating people and tracking accounts in a post one time. It was like he was doing manual signal intelligence. "This time: that guy from New York posts a bunch of stuff. That time: Some guy in London starts posting. Later: Some guy in California wakes up and starts making silly posts. About an hour after that: Matt begins shitposting."
That kind of thing. It's like he was taking the temperature of the board and looking for the unusual. Back in the day, looking for a sudden onslaught of posts from Sweden or wherever didn't seem all that weird. Seeing as we were part of a community that tracked the times and dates of moderation actions on a certain board over months in order to work out the sole moderator's sleep/wake routine, his paranoia didn't seem that weird. I just figured that was the way he was wired.
I do kind of miss his snide comments. I hope he's doing well wherever he is.
