Topic: I'm working on a yacht helping a guy mount the mast.

I've got zero yacht mast mounting experience, but it's going well so far. I measured the fixing points on the mast, spreaders, and hull, and then drew up a plan for the wire ropes that hold it in place.
It's not where the guy wanted the ropes to be but it's what I think looks better geometrically and also looks more like the rest of the yachts in the marina lol
We are going to park the boat in a spot near the fence, have a crane on the other side and lift it into place. All the wire ropes will be premade and fixed to the mast, I need to get the lengths right allowing for shackles and turnbuckles so that the mast can be secured and the crane released.

Its maiden voyage was 100 meters or so. The first time it's moved under it's own power, and not attached to another boat "just in case" because all the steering controls are held together with cable ties and duct tape.
Once it has a sail and the controls are adjusted it can theoretically go sailing. But it still needs 2 roller furlings and the interior all fitted out with plumbing and electrical and a radio and gps and a life boat etc, etc.

Learning about sailing, or drawing stuff on the computer? I'm not a sailor, and only intend to drink on the yacht when it's in the harbour. It'll be sailing by next year, and will be a floating party for the Americans Cup regatta.

Both, and just how boats work in general! regardless, what you're doing is super fucking cool. I never liked sailing but you still have me jealous :)

Lynda.com and Udemy are both pretty useful. Torrent sites have a lot of their tutorials. That's how I learn most software. No idea about sailing, but I'm worried about the height of the mast.
He was recommended an 18m mast height, but went to 20m as some sort of yachting pissing contest. But the mast acts as a lever, so all that extra leverage means it will tip the boat over easier. To counter act it, it needs more ballast and lowers the profile of the boat in the water... Who knows, maybe he won't push it anywhere near it's limits anyway, and everything will be fine.

AR's really good for e-learning shit, esp. Lynda and Pluralsight. You're probably good without it, but keep it in mind if you're ever after something you can't find elsewhere (often has open registration).
