I got my Marquis back today!!!! They had to replace almost everything in the transmission. It was completely ruined. Just a box of shrapnel, really.
I had to rent a 2018 Nissan Versa and it was fucking terrible. The most infuriating little shitbox on wheels. My boss asked me how I liked it. I told her the Nissan Versa was Japan's revenge for losing World War 2. It was tinny, completely gutless engine, bouncy, rock hard suspension, hard uncomfortably small seats, no room. Just awful.
Getting back behind the wheel of the Grand Marquis was heavenly. Almost orgasmic. Giant squishy velour bench seats, marshmallow soft suspension, room to spread out. The thumping bass riff of the 4.6 liter V8. The reassuring solidity of 4,200lbs of Detroit steel. It's the weight that I like. It smoothes out so much.
They don't make proper full size sedans anymore. The Ford Crown Victoria/Mercury Grand Marquis/Lincoln Town Car (they're all actually the same car with different badges) were the very last real American full size sedans because SUVs killed that segment. I hate trucks and SUVs. I don't like sitting up that high. I want to be low to the ground.
