> I read a few places that you should never have less than 500 calories a day without consulting a doctor. This is relevant to my interests. > So. Why?
Calories per day - The minimum number of Calories per day is calculated based on height and sex according to the guidelines of the Institute of Medicine. When the BMI is 25 or greater, the minimum number of Calories is reduced by 15% to obtain a diet that is not very severe and can be maintained for many months without adverse effects by persons with normal health. The number of Calories may need to be increased depending on the level of activity, but increasing them by more than 15% may not result in loss of weight. To lose weight, your intake of carbohydrates should be less than 60 grams per day (no more than 240 Calories) distributed throughout the day.
Grams of protein per day - This value is calculated from the maximum normal BMI, your height, and your level of activity. It corresponds to 0.8 grams of protein per Kilogram of body weight which is the Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) for low levels of activity, 1.1 grams for moderate activity, and 1.4 grams for vigorous activity. Other components of the diet, including essential fatty acids and carbohydrates should be proportioned to provide the minimum required Calories per day. For men and women of equal height the caloric requirements are lower for women, but the protein requirements are the same for both men and women. This means that, in general, women's diets should be richer in protein than men's diets. Any diet should always include at least the minimum amount of protein to prevent loss of muscle tissue when the caloric intake is reduced. A typical high-protein diet would derive 30% of the Calories from protein, 30% from fat, and 40% from carbohydrate. A low carbohydrate weight-loss diet generally derives 25% of the Calories from protein, 65% from fat, and 10% from carbohydrate. The tables below show that these percentages provide more than the minimum protein requirement for 2000- and 1800-calorie diets. The U.S. Government Recommended Diet is used as the basis for the "% Daily Values" that are listed on the "Nutrition Facts" labels in food products.
tl;dr bottom line. IF YOU Do not get a minimum amount of protean per day, your body will draw it out of your muscles and that can include YOUR HEART. Karen Carpenter died from Heart Damage do to exactly this problem.

You should be eating much more. 10x your weight in calories is a good minimum for dieting if mixed with exercise.
You cant eat >500 calories for long, and even then you need a lot of protein and fiber (and lots of water or you will get constipated) or you will not come out of if well. Don't do it more than a week. Seriously. It's bad news.

10x seems a bit much for some people, imo.
Alright. I just don't feel the need to eat much any more.

I see. That's rather interesting.

There is no standard number of daily calories you should eat. It varies from person to person.

Noooo. Women shouldn't eat less than 1000.
@150,480 (Triptych !!DP4/G/5A6)
It's too little for more or less everyone. It's for dieting. A woman weighing 130lbs can eat 1300 calories and lose weight.
You are like 15-16 or so, yes? You should eat more because you are still growing.
You want a balanced diet. If you are trying to lose weight, just eat good good (lean meats, veggies, fruits, avoid starchy carbs as much as you can). Just eat until you are full. If one servin isn't enough and you are still hungry 20 minutes later, eat some more.
In all seriousness, eating so little sets you up for some serious issues. It puts you in a mindset where failure can cause you to spiral out out of control (which could result in anorexia or overeating).
500 calories is seriously too low. Bodyrecomposition.com -- go there. Read up on weight loss. It will educate you so you know what's what and don't get any misinformation. Lyle McDonald is legit. He gives out most of his information for free. He gears his writing towards athletes and such, but it's helpful for everyone.
It's all easy to understand too.

Lean meats, veggies, fruits, etc. aren't usually things I have available to eat at home. Not often, at least.
When there is, my mom makes really good (and healthy) food, though...
Reading up now. Thanks, man.

I have serious doubts it cums 2 only 500. Unless you are in bed 24/7 a day. No energy output and then maybe one could do 500

Your body adapts. You can do a good amount of work and, you will feel like shit, but you will be able to go about your day.
The problem is your body starts eating itself.
