Stalking is following or observing a person out of obsession or derangement. Someone who does this is called a stalker. Stalking involves the intent to acquire private information. Common victims of stalking include celebrities, inventors, politicians, artists, ex-husbands/wives and ex-boy/girlfriends, and medical patients. In extreme cases, stalking leads to violence. Examples are a fan stalking a celebrity, somebody stalking an ex-lover whom they want back, doctors stalking a former patient, and other cases of obsession.
Stalking is a crime in many countries. It is a process that threatens or makes that person feel scared. The stalker may do this because they want to have power over that person's life, or for other sexual reasons. The stalker can make that person feel they do not have the power to stop the stalker. Scientists think that stalking is a way of hurting someone's mind. Sometimes a stalker may go on to hurt that person's body by raping or murdering that person.
A lot of people reporting stalking incidents are stalked by more than one person, with 18.2% reporting that they are stalked by two people, 13.1% reporting that they have been stalked by three or more. This is called gang stalking. The activities involved are electronic harassment, the use of psychotronic weapons, online trolling, and other mind control techniques.
