And it is a horrible movie
If a non famous person had pitched such a film, they would have been laughed out of the room!

On review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, the film has an approval rating of 95% based on 200 reviews, with an average rating of 7.97/10. The site's critical consensus reads, "With Jordan Peele's second inventive, ambitious horror film, we have seen how to beat the sophomore jinx, and it is Us." On Metacritic, it has a weighted average score of 81 out of 100 based on 50 critics, indicating "Universal acclaim".

Monica Castillo of RogerEbert.com gave the film four out of four, writing that: "Us is another thrilling exploration of the past and oppression this country is still too afraid to bring up. Peele wants us to talk, and he's given audiences the material to think, to feel our way through some of the darker sides of the human condition and the American experience." David Griffin of IGN gave it a 9.0 out of 10, writing it is a strange film with excellent character development, humor, music and cinematography to give an above average horror-thriller.

People in the theater were laughing at the scary parts!

What's it about? (don't care about spoilers because I had no plans to watch it anyway)

A family is terrorised by their doubles because people have been growing duplicates of everyone in an underground lab
At the end the doubles do a hands across America, I shit you not

At one point the real family asks the mirror family who they are and want they want and the leader of the mirror family says "We're Americans"
What nuance and metaphoric genius!

That's a reference to the "helping hands" event in Cali back in 1986. To solve world hunger and homelessness, they would raise money and have people holding hands as a symbolic gesture of all "Americans" coming together.

Sounds like shades of what Blue Velvet did with the horror being the all the base instincts that get papered over by people pretending to live a happy, normal life. I'll probably go watch it now because you've piqued my interest with this post.

Well everything you think is confusing and reprehensible are things I find interesting. Fair play though. Everything you find interesting seems to me like something a racist mass-murderer would beat off to. I guess I have shit taste. I kind of revel in having shit taste in movies.

I think if you seem confused and distraught enough to make a post about how much this movie left you confused and distraught then I ought to watch it because I might like it.

Are the doubles stronger or smarter than the originals? Like a fight between me and an exact duplicate of me would be a stalemate because we'd be exactly identical in every way. I don't think I'd be able to outsmart myself or outfight myself.

But why doubles? Why not genetically engineer some superhumans or something?

So it's like immigrants may seem scary but they're actually just like us! Natural born US citizens are the original people and immigrants are the doubles. They're practically identical to Americans! I get it! ?

They are nearly the same and may be slightly mentally retarded. They were created in an attempt to control humans and spend their days mimicking their movements.
So in one facility they mimic people in a amusement park. So imagine a bunch of people pretending to ride a rollercoaster.
It looked like an improve acting class or something

You thought that they way that the mirror people talked wasn't ridiculous and the whole underground facility made sense? You also liked the ending?

It was a conceit, it doesn't have to make perfect sense, it's a goddamn horror movie so you should expect things to work slightly differently than in real life perhaps. The voice made sense in context, like deaf people warbling at each other because they don't have the same feedback loop to perfect their speech.

I did like the ending. I'll be thinking about this movie for awhile, and now I want to see "Get Out" too. I will probably see this one again. There was so much going on in this movie beyond the violence and scares. The two versions of the boys were the most interesting and enigmatic. I wish I could just see clips of the boys' scenes again with everything else cut out because I feel like I missed some layers of their relationship.

Is Us supposed to be a comedy horror, or is it just retarded and trying to play up the whole immigration thing with some half hearted jump scares mixed in?

I don't believe reviews as a general rule. I usually only believe bad reviews given by people who aren't professional paid early/special access reviewers anyway.

Not every book, movie, car or whatever can be the best one you've ever seen. I would say 75% of positive reviews are paid advertising, and the rest is click baity bullshit.

I'm not going to watch this movie.
