Years ago when I was working/living in Israel for Qualcomm, peeps at work insisted that I go with them to visit the Golan Heights. And there is a lot of straw in the bunkers. Was very peaceful given it's right on top of Syria.

I don't follow the news much so I had to actually Google that.
In regards to the Golan thing, no. It's no different than what Russia did with Crimea. Stuff like recognizing Israel's occupation of the Golan Heights or moving the US embassy to Jerusalem or whatever doesn't bother me either way. What practical difference does it make?

well it costs money. that's pretty practical.
aside from that, the region is full of hotheads that are like agitated bees. It's like saying, look how terrible they are, I can do a harmless thing and then they blow up and people get killed, what terrible people
so a thing that we know should be harmless is done, and we get what we expect while washing our hands of it
