The country has blocked its citizens from visiting 4chan, 8chan, and Kiwifarms.
They've also petitioned kiwifarms to release the ip adresses of people who have discussed the attack. Interesting things happening

So isp providers are blocking websites and the police department are looking for the isp numbers of people who talk about the crime or view it

Voluntarily yes. It's not government censorship and I don't think it's every ISP either.
> and the police department are looking for the isp numbers of people who talk about the crime or view it
There is no such thing as an ISP number and the article I linked doesn't mention that.

I know it doesn't
I've seen the emails that they've sent to Kiwifarms, soliciting ip addresses
When I wrote isp I meant ip

Google DNS is blocking those sites in NZ. They also deleted Remove Kebab off youtube which had been there for 9 years because the killer played that song. He played Initial D for his getaway music, but I don't know if that has been removed also. So it's Google among others doing the censoring. Multinational corporations censoring what citizens of a country can view on the internet "voluntarily"? Fuck that. Shitposting is too important.
The sites are being blocked until they become "censorship compliant" to what the NZ gov wants, because NZ is China and Iran now
I called my ISP about it, they said they don't block any sites. They recommended I change DNS so I dl a DNS changer app for my android phone which uses Google DNS by default, it worked. Fuck Google, duckduckgo it.

Weird, huh? It's almost like police departments are interested in heading off crimes like the mass murder spree that just happened.

No, they are not interested in that. There is an inquiry into why the police didn't do that. The gun club the guy belonged to was reported to police by a guy who went for a shoot there and realized he was surrounded by nutjobs. He took a pretty extreme step for a gun owner in NZ to report them. We already have strict gun laws. Really strict.
For example if you want to own a pistol in NZ you have to leave it in the armory of the pistol club or police station for two years before you are allowed it at home. If you don't use the pistol and shoot regularly at clubs you get your license suspended. And if you are taking your pistol to the club, your route to and from the gun club is mapped out and if you are found with the pistol outside of that route or are not going to or from the gun club you lose your pistol and license. The pistol and ammunition are locked separately in safes in your car and in your home.
Our gun laws are about to get a whole lot stricter....

@previous (H) > We already have strict gun laws. Really strict.
Oh yeah. It certainly sounds pretty strict. A nutjob collected a bunch of guns and someone took the extreme step of mentioning it to the authorities. Sounds like a regular police state.

The gun laws are strict. Police interview a person who has known you for 5 years or something, and visit your house and inspect your gun cabinet before you can get a license for a hunting rifle. Buying and selling guns has to be reported to the police, licenses inspected and the gun registry is updated.
When someone gets reported for fucking about with guns they are supposed to take it seriously. They didn't, hence the inquiry.

Sounds like all the more reason they would want to collect information about nutjobs from Kiwifarms.

No the cop is a retard who thought kiwifarms was a New Zealand website (hurr, it says "kiwi" why investagayte fur 5 minut?) and that it was going to be easy pickings to get the IP addresses and emails of people having a discussion so they can make some arrests for law enforcement theater. It took them so fucking long to respond to the incident around the corner from the police station that they are over compensating now so they can be seen to be doing something.
Some 18 year old kid has already been charged with distributing the video. The Facebook live streamed video... The one shared on Twitter... The one people were watching on Youtube... Turns out it's been decided that it's worth 10 years and $100,000 max penalty for some kid who probably shared a link to something someone from outside NZ shared with him on social media. WTF? Fucking great response NZ Police. Thanks for all your policing lately. Really enjoying the taxation funding of all the traffic ticket writers investigating parking fines, would pay again, five stars.
When the US Synagogue shooter was found to have a Gab account the whole site got black holed. That's not happening here. Facebook, Twitter and Youtube are fine. It's not their fault, nothing to see here, move along... Blame Gab and Voat for their users but not Facebook and Twitter? The whole thing's a steaming pile of horseshit, and I want no part of it. These sites that have been banned in NZ are going to be labeled "controversial" and "problematic" but you are not allowed to talk about it and there is a blanket ban so that all conversation on there will be banned for New Zealanders, including everything unrelated and in between until American websites are censorship compliant with NZ laws!? Get fucked. Seriously. Get fucked.
Sky TV New Zealand removed the Sky News Australia TV channel from our programing because they showed a clip of the video. I can only assume that the mainstream news tv channel didn't actually show any violence from the vid during daytime television, BUT THE FUCKING TERRORIST WAS AN AUSTRALIAN SO YES IT IS NEWSWORTHY AND WE ARE NOT ALLOWED TO SEE OR HEAR ANY OF IT FROM AUSTRALIAN TV NEWS OR THEIR PERSPECTIVE? This blows my mind... I'm supposed to put my fingers in my ears, close my eyes and scream LALALALALALALA until it all goes away? Fucking hell.
Some bureaucrat movie censor has videos in his jurisdiction and decided that it's illegal for New Zealanders to share it and to watch it, and this is how they are spending their time and our resources now. That's fine. But what sort of idiot thinks that they can remove that sort of video from the internet? They are trying their hardest to make damn sure everyone knows that Barbra Streisand has a house in Malibu ffs.
Am I allowed to watch the Zapruder film? Film of WWII atrocities? Film of any terrorist attack that has ever occurred in the past? Am I allowed to watch footage of people jumping to their deaths from the world trade center? I give zero fucks about what they think they are going to somehow achieve, but the way they are trying to censor this one vid is a ham fisted approach at best. At worst it's Tienanmen Square being censored in an effort to ensure that the authorities don't look bad.
I don't think the video should be celebrated, and I think that's why they are worried and having this knee jerk reaction. I understand that they want to limit retaliation, copycat attacks, etc. I also think that this is some next level bullshit Chinese democracy and that my freedom can be taken on a whim, to protect me from the things that the man behind the curtain considers to be beyond what my weak and fragile mind can handle, and to limit the wrong thought of people who are exposed to it.

I like to think of it as a cynical response to overblown bullshit. New Zealand wanted to stop a bunch of edgelords from being shitty for a little bit in the wake of a tragedy. No one is shutting down the Internet. I don't really want to validate some asshat whining about how the end times are here because he can't share videos of people being murdered. I don't care how sincere the rant is because I don't give a shit about his feelings.
