DEFCON 4 was enabled temporarily to stop ban evasion.

DEFCON 1 — Block everyone from accessing the board except for Administrators.
DEFCON 2 — Block all users except for Moderators and Administrators from posting.
DEFCON 3 — Block posting for users with less than 5 posts.
DEFCON 4 — Block the creation of new UIDs, existing UIDs have full privileges.
DEFCON 5 — Normal board operation.

Haha, yeah. Three or four years back, I suggested to r04r she should include an affiliate link to PIA on ban pages and elsewhere on the forum (those little advert-like snippets you sometimes see in threads, under the initial post, which now mostly link to the ?-ready ass and cheap suicide draads). After a year or so only one person had signed up through the link, so r04r removed it from the snippets – but evidently not from the ban page.

FWIW, you can reconnect to the VPN a few times until you get an IP that isn't listed in StopForumSpam, which we use to blacklist known-spammy IPs!

I'm not sure what you mean. I seldom ban anybody besides spammers; other mods do, though, and DEFCON 4 simply stops the creation of new UIDs.
