I'm thinking about buying a computer which has this graphics card in it https://www.targetsecure.co.uk/newtc24/default.asp?Prod=GRVTX-HD5450-1GB (ATI Radeon HD 5450) - it has a VGA port, a DVI-A port and a HDMI port (I think). If I connect up one monitor with VGA, then put a VGA to DVI-A converter on the other monitor and connect that as well, both monitors will work at the same time, right? It should in theory but I wanna be sure.

And will the resolution or quality be different if one is DVI-A? No idea why they don't just put two of the same ports and HDMI.

I don't think it would work. I think usually graphics cards and even laptops that can handle two-monitor setups have two of the same video ports.
Try seeing if you can find something like that, or possibly ask the manufacturer.

Don't know. There isn't any real reason for it not to work. I e-mailed the manufacturer of the computer and they wouldn't give me a solid answer.

I'm not basing my questions on any facts. Everything always goes wrong for me so there is no point in not being pessimistic. It's hard to patronize me on this subject because I know almost nothing about it.

And through three graphics card I've used the same HDMI/DVI setup and it's always worked flawlessly. I don't know where you got that 'identical ports required' thing.

I've never seen a graphics card with more than one port advertised for supporting dual monitors, because they all do. It's standard.
Three monitors, not so much.
