I think I was maybe 10 or 11 when that fact really hit home. I knew it before that in an abstract sense. I understood intellectually that my body was made out of stuff, but I never really internalized the idea that it was the same stuff everything else was made out too. I always thought my stuff was in a special category.

Yeah I was quite young when I first understood it, just kind of calmly accepted it.
Now the interesting realization came when I was eating some bacon age 17, and realized that ultimately there is no 100% guarantee that the meat I was eating wasn't actually made out of human meat. I posted it on facebook and got lots of likes and comments on the matter.
