Topic: Does anyone know how I can enable write access on my phone?

Kook !!rcSrAtaAC started this discussion 7 years ago #85,147

I've just put in an sd card in my phone but it won't allow me to put certain apps on the card. Does enabling write access fix this?

Some/many need to stay on internal storage for security purposes

Even YouTube? I just want to put my saved YouTube videos onto my sd card

Oh god I ran into this years ago. I wasn't able to figure it out and just gave up on mobile gaming. I really only use the browser these days anyway.

Open the YouTube Go app.
Go to a video you'd like to download to your SD card.
Tap the video once.
Select the video quality of either Data Saver, Standard, or High Quality.
Tap Download.

I suggest Standard.

But I don't think that the downloaded videos go to my sd card, because YouTube isn't on the sd card

Try a file manager app and move them after downloading?

Its weird because you can't even see them in the phone. They must be kept with the YouTube main file. But I want to move the whole YouTube app!

If you enable developer options on your device, which you should be able to find a guide for online, I believe there's an option that 'forces' it and but warns of instability but allows it.

No. I suggest you spend a little time getting to be comfortable with moving something (anything) from where your phone currently stores anything, to your sd card. Start with just a photo. Then a few more and then as a group you select. Next click on the sd card and view what you have stored. Next any video.

You might look for a tutorial on your phone model. Ask Google - How do I located videos on my Kook Modle XYZ-4 Phone. Later after you have moved stuff and you are happy - then you can delete items from your phone to free up space.

You did bring up "rooted" Yes there are items in storage that should not be moved to a ssd-card. That is because those items are necessary for the device to work normally. Only because there is a "call directory" (its not called that) and - just to complicated to detail - code that makes the phone work is written to look for those other items and it's written to look for them in the current storage place on phone - If you were allowed to just move them then ugh just ugh -

Youtube videos are not necessary for phone operation so they can be moved. You can even set up Youtube downloads to go directly to ssd card.

You need to root your phone but also learn how to not fuck up your phone after you root it.

Not sure, usually it allows you to store data on sd and the app itself on internal storage
