@OPrescription The Sinclair Method with Naltrexone works great, and Campral also greatly reduces cravings. I support you in your journey back to sobriety!

Pills as a stand-in for learning self control? It's like a grotesque parody of liquid courage, right?

Lying is a common trait of addicts. Look, we are not judging you. We want you to recover. Please consider The Sinclair Method.

I don't understand, who is matt WHO IS HE? Oh i know I know, he's everyone, haha, but really though WHO IS HE?

Why do we believe matt so easily? I don't believe matt so easily. Nha it's obvious something personal is going on here and we ought not be involved in talking about it like it's ours to talk about.

True addiction has nothing to do with self control. Read the science.

I feel like pretending that it's all a matter of biology and chemistry takes something away from the person. Making decisions that don't lead back into addictive behaviors is very much a matter of self control. The effects of addiction, craving, and withdrawal have a real biological basis. Using something to ease that while you teach yourself new behaviors is one thing, but giving up one crutch just to fall onto another isn't really solving a problem.

Funny story I heard at an AA meeting: The lady leading the meeting said she had been pulled over for driving a bit over the speed limit. The officer asked her if she had anything to drink recently. She said, "No." He wasn't convinced and a little while later he asked her again. This time the officer said, "When did you last have anything to drink?" She replied, "Around 2am on March 14, 1996." He looked up from checking out her license and said, "Oh. You're one of those people."

Apparently you can spot the bandwagon folks like that.

It's probably a good way to think about it though. Each day without a drink stands as proof you have the power over your own life.

Keeping track of the days, now months, has really helped. Each day I leave it further behind. Each day I get stronger and alcohol gets weaker.

Also I always have a new milestone to reach: 1 week, 1 month, 6 months, 1 year, 5 years, etc. I'm not crazy about AA but I do like the chip system.

@967,119 (A)
We've been over this. I can't do the Sinclair Method because I'm not drinking alcohol. I can't block the endorphins from alcohol release because alcohol hasn't released a single endorphin in my brain in the past 280 days. I don't have any alcohol-related endorphins to block.

Yeah, I'm not crazy about AA either. I was just there because some guy in a black dress got real mad at something I did once.

yeah i gotta agree, you gotta balance biology and personal agency and there's a tendency to go too far on one side

If Meta had a wife, kids.”, and a normal job that paid well maybe he wouldn’t drink so much.

Being a guy that cleans restrooms and stocks candy at a 7/11 at the age of 39 must be rough. At least he can suck off truckers in the parking lot during the wee hours of morning as a sexual outlet.
