Yet my computer isn't the least bit faster. I also conducted scans with both Windows Defender and Malwarebytes. There were no threats. This is rworded.

Update: It does seem to improve performance, but my startup is slow.

Newer versions of Windows (XP and beyond, IIRC) defragment automatically on a regular basis so your drive will never get that fragmented to begin with.

Your problem is probably a slow hard drive. In my desktop I'm using a 5400RPM laptop hard drive I salvaged from an old laptop I got in 2011. Startup takes like 3-4 minutes before it's fully usable. I could upgrade to an SSD easily but I'm honestly too lazy to move all my shit off the old hard drive.

System specs would be helpful. If you're running on like a Core 2 Duo and 2GB DDR2 RAM from 2008 or some shit that would definitely slow you down.

Reinstall Windows and wipe it down with some rubbing alcohol and you should be good to go!
