My company runs a wellness program each month with new posters and messages about how to live a healthy life.
June was Healthy Colon Month. I had a colectomy a few years ago.
A few weeks ago I was in the kitchen when an HR rep was there and she asked if I was following any of the "healthy colon tips" that had been shared.
My sarcastic self said something to the effect of "Not really since I don't have much of a colon left. Besides, don't you think it's a little colon-insensitive to ask that? Would you ask an amputee how they were doing on their walking goal?"
I thought my sarcasm was obvious, but apparently not. I learned yesterday that there have been a series of urgent meetings in the HR team about creating better awareness of messaging with regards to the employees and potentials "micro-aggressions." I'm laughing.
